Virginia MortonVirginia Morton has lived in Culpeper for over 46 years. The former math teacher became fascinated with Culpeper’s vast Civil War history and after several years of intense research, decided to tell Culpeper’s story to the world. Against all odds and amidst skepticism from her family and friends, she wrote and published a historical novel, Marching Through Culpeper, to promote tourism and preservation of the county’s three battlefields. Through prayer and with God’s provision, her book has sold over 10,500 copies and garnered 52 five-star reviews on Amazon. In addition, she conducts Civil War Walking Tours of Downtown Culpeper that have been enjoyed by over 5,000 people. In 2012 a musical stage production of Marching Through Culpeper received standing ovations from over 2,000 people.

A frequent speaker at Civil War Round Tables, civic groups, libraries, Christian groups, and book clubs, Virginia’s dynamic presentations give an overview of the war in Culpeper. She was a leader in “Pray Culpeper,” and found that praying for community transformation with an ecumenical group changed her life. She has become and advocate for supporting Christian filmmakers and bringing Christian films and entertainment to Culpeper.
