Psalm 133:1,3 states “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is For brethren to dwell together in unity! … For there the LORD commanded the blessing – Life forevermore.”

On Sept 7, 2011, I received an email from John Norquay stating,

Cherie and I met you at the KEYS conference this year. We spoke on the balcony the first night during the 7 mountains speech. We also attended your Webinar presentation and are interested in finding out how that might fit into my business. To refresh your memory, I have a Registered Investment Advisory company. Our niche: We help people manage their 401k accounts. We also manage IRA’s and regular brokerage accounts utilizing Fidelity or TD Ameritrade. We feel the 401k business can grow very quickly, since there really isn’t any help from the broker community here. What truly separates us from all the other advisors is our investment approach. We know that God made everything as energy which travels in cycles. We track these cycles that occur within the market. The bottom line: we aim to limit down turns in client portfolios without limiting the upturns.

Two days later, I had a phone meeting with John to become clear on his needs and made a $5,000 offer for my 8-week Master’s Mind Marketing (MMM) program. John discussed my offer with Cherie later that day and after I addressed her questions, they chose to pursue this God-given opportunity together.

John and Cherie Norquay received their 8 weeks of Master’s Mind Marketing (MMM) coaching together from me September 13 through November 1, 2011. This was the first time I ever coached a Spirit-filled couple together for the entire 8-week Master’s Mind Marketing program. So much fruit came from this, it astounded all of us.
 

After the very first MMM coaching session, John and Cherie began journaling daily to hear God’s voice, record what’s happening, and respond accordingly.

John listened to Brendon Burchard’s teaching about The Millionaire Messenger. This helped John change his thinking (mindset) to realize others recognize his expertise in the 401k and IRA arena and will pay well for his advice.

Around Sept 29, after three MMM coaching sessions, John did a live group presentation to 15 people and 11 asked to meet with John afterwards. All 11 chose to sign up. According to John, nothing like this had every happened before for him. Something had already changed in John’s mindset to make this his most successful meeting to date.

On September 20, I began making several prestige introductions for John and Cherie.

On October 6, I hosted John and Cherie and two other panelists on a webinar titled “Your 401k or IRA: The Missing Piece!”. With this WEBINAR, John positioned himself as an expert, created a simple video to refer prospects to, and generated the content for a new book.

But even more amazing is something serendipitous that the Holy Spirit did as a result of this webinar. Tom, the brother of a good friend of John, offered to help John improve his PowerPoint for the webinar. In this process, he became intimately knowledgeable of the benefits John offered his clients.

As a result, a few weeks later, Tom scheduled an appointment on Nov 17 for John and him to meet with a company that has $60 million in Fidelity 401k plans. Tom actually helped started that company and work for that company for years. Tom is also looking into opening a door with a company that has $500 million in 401k assets.

On October 11, John began the 60-60 Experiment after hearing me share the amazing story about Frank Laubach in the Soul Revolution book. But instead of intentionally connecting with God every 60 minutes for 60 days, John chose to do this more often, setting his watch to beep every 15 minutes.

“Did I Really Live” was birthed, which Joseph senses is Cherie’s signature message and legacy. This happened in the nick of time for Cherie to share with two live audiences, one at a local church and the other in Green Bay.

An executive of an engineering company in Huntsville Alabama contacted John in late October, chose to invest his money with John, and offered to have John come down to Huntsville to meet with other executives of his company as well as several other engineering companies about 401k investments.

 
Let’s Summarize

• At the start of the Master’s Mind Marketing coaching, John had been running his own business as a certified investment advisor for about ten years and was managing millions of dollars in 401k’s, IRA’s, and private investments.
• In a matter of weeks, new clients and major referrals began flooding into John’s business.
• John began closing quickly on business with people he has never met.
• By positioning John as a thought leader in the area of private investments, the door of opportunity opened for John’s business (gross revenue) to increase at least 5 within a few months and at least 30 fold in less than a year.
• John and Cherie are both hearing more clearly from God and responding moment by moment.
• The Holy Spirit is breathing LIFE into the DREAMS of John and Cherie, their family, and their businesses.

Alignment

Long-term brands and relationships are built on alignment. Here are a few examples (“I” is the royal I, not me in particular):

A perfect relationship: I want your company to help me, and your company wants to help me. We’re both focused on helping the same person.

The Walmart relationship: I want the cheapest possible prices and Walmart wants to (actually works hard to) give me the cheapest possible prices. That’s why there’s little pushback about customer service or employee respect… the goals are aligned.

The Apple relationship: I want Apple to be cool. Apple wants to be cool. That’s why there’s little pushback on pricing or obsolence or disappointing developers.

The demagogue politician relationship: I will feel more powerful if you get elected and get your way. You will feel more powerful if you get elected and get your way.

The search engine relationship (when it’s working): I want to find what I’m looking for. You want me to find what I’m looking for, regardless of the short-term income possibilities.

The Mercedes (formerly Cadillac) relationship: I want a prestige product that reliably delivers an expensive label that’s unattainable to many. They want to reliably and consistently charge a lot for a car that sends a message to everyone else.

The farmer’s market relationship: I want to eat sustainable foods that make me feel good. You want to grow sustainable foods that make me feel good.

Compare these to the ultimately doomed relationships (if not doomed, then tense) in which goals don’t align, relationships where the brand took advantage of an opening but then grows out of the initial deal and wants to change it:

The Dell relationship: I want a cheap, boring, reliable computer. You want to make more profit.

The hip designer relationship: I want the new thing no one else has yet. You want to be around for years.

The search engine relationship (when it doesn’t work): I want to find what I’m looking for. You want to distract me and take money to send me places I actually don’t want to go.

The reluctant purchaser relationship: I don’t want to waste money on something I didn’t know I wanted. You want to make a commission.

The troll relationship: I want to laugh at a buffoon who doesn’t realize he’s making a fool of himself. You want to be respected by the mainstream.

The young actor relationship: I want the fresh-faced young movie star. You want a career that lasts more than a year.

The typical media relationship: I want to see the shows, you want to interrupt with ads.

Alignment isn’t something you say. It’s something you do. Alignment is demonstrated when you make the tough calls, when you see if the thing that matters the most to you is also the thing that matters the most to the other person.

The tension that comes from misalignment can work for a while, but it’s when alignment kicks in that the enterprise really scales.
